How Much Does a Commercial LED Retrofit Cost?

Most commercial LED projects are priced per fixture. The price depends on the fixture type, how high it is mounted, wiring work, and labor. The way to compare quotes is cost per fixture, not the total at the bottom of the page.

Why cost is measured per fixture

A warehouse high bay and an office troffer are not the same job. One needs a lift. One does not. That changes labor more than the light itself.

Ask every contractor for two numbers: the fixture price and the labor price. Then you can compare quotes fairly.

What moves the price up

Some buildings cost more to work in. That is normal.

  • High ceilings that need lifts
  • Old wiring that must be replaced
  • Work that has to happen at night or on weekends
  • Controls, sensors, or dimming added to the project
  • Disposal of old lamps and ballasts

Do the math before you sign

Take the project cost. Subtract any incentive you have confirmed in writing. That is your net cost.

Then divide the net cost by your estimated yearly savings. That is your simple payback in years.

Questions people ask

Is a retrofit kit cheaper than a new fixture?
Often yes on the material. But a new fixture can last longer and may qualify for different incentives. Compare both.
Should I get more than one quote?
Yes. Two or three quotes usually show you the real range for your building.
